From The Archives- Cairo 1986 [Feb. 19th, 2011|10:30 am]
Tony Grist
My daughter "borrowed" most of my pictures of ancient monuments, so what I'm left with are a few images of modern Cairo.

1. Inside the hotel

2. Outside the hotel

3. View across the city. The big enclosure with the central dome is the Ibn Tulun mosque

What I remember is the smog, and the poverty, and the people who lived inside tombs in the graveyards because there was nowhere else to live.

Cairo was- and probably still is- a pretty grim place.
