Honeysuckle [Jun. 30th, 2010|09:25 am]
Tony Grist
I needn't have worried about the honeysuckle. Honeysuckle is hardy. Having been cut back from the wall by the workmen earlier this year, it has taken off in the other direction with renewed vigour, using the holly trees as a climbing frame. There's not enough of it to create a cloud of scent- there never was- but if you stand around in the backyard you keep getting wafts of it.

Cutting back a honeysuckle only makes it grow more vigorously. I have a huge one on a fence and in the evenings the scent is all over the garden. We also have a Night Jessamine that is overpoweringly perfumed. I love the floral scents as much as I do the flowers.

Very nice. Honeysuckle isn't all that much to look at, but the scent is fabulous. When we first moved here (I wasn't with Ailz then) I insisted we brought a cutting from my girlfriend's former garden.
