Once I Built A Tower [Sep. 3rd, 2009|10:05 am]
Tony Grist
Alice took a call yesterday from the Oldham Advertizer. They'd heard about her book (now on sale at Amazon) and the eager cub reporter wanted to talk to her about her life growing up in Oldham- and in particular about her rascally, old dad.

She didn't give him my phone number, but I have his. I'm not going to call it. This is Alice's gig not mine- and I'm no longer in business as a mad-eyed deflowerer of virgins and trampler on crucifixes; that's a story of long ago and far away. If he manages to track me down I'll speak to him- as a reward for being a proper newshound- but only if.

I'm not entirely sure, but isn't that the Ballad of Joe Hill?

Have a good time in Russia!

a good guess but no it is tom joad
saying goodbye to his mother at the end
of grapes of wrath by john steinbeck.
which was also a not terrible movie...
sentimentail of course but...
well I am here. the plane was absolutely
full, they checked us with temperature reading
for swine flu on arrival and had only two lanes
open for passport control an hour in line but
some of us got in the russians only line which
was the only one of the two that was moving
and got through..,

Ah yes, I should have recognized it.

I haven't read the book, but I love John Ford.
