Erm, Hello Everybody; It's Me Again [Aug. 27th, 2009|09:32 am]
Tony Grist
So- metaphorically speaking- I went  as far as the street corner, hung around till it got chilly and then came home. There are, I believe, marriages in which this kind of thing happens all the time.

I hope I've been away long enough not to seem a complete fool.

Besides,  I proved to myself I can get by without having the computer on all the time- and that's good.  For the best part of a week, I switched it on for an hour in the morning and an hour at night- and all the rest of the day I did housework, tidied the attic, cooked plum crumble, socialized, read books, watched Ghost Whisperer- and did crossword puzzles.  It was a return to basics. I enjoyed it.

But crossword puzzles or LJ- which is the better use of my time?  No-brainer, that one.  Besides I was lying in bed, composing LJ posts in my head, and it seemed pretty silly not to be writing them down.

Thank goodness!

I feel as if writing itself is key to living existentially, fully, for me. I do put pressure on myself to write (which blocks me), but I truly believe it enhances the quality of life to write something.

Besides, you write exceptionally well, and your thoughts/perspectives are interesting. You make me think, and I appreciate that. You have an avid readership.

The LJ project is one that I feel is a real engagement of writers and like minds -- it's a worthy project and a worthwhile one.

Still, it isn't a job, it's an art (of sorts). Art isn't and is demanding. (Do we ride the words or do the words ride us?)

I'm glad you are working through your relationship to LJ, negotiating your terms. :> I was sad you thought of disappearing altogether.

Whew!

Thanks.

I've always written- one thing or another- and when I discovered LJ it seemed the perfect vehicle for the kinds of things I wanted to do.

It was worth walking away if only to find out that this is a place I belong.
