The in-laws are dropping by this morning, so I've been outside sowing the icy pavement with salt. Everywhere else is thawed out- the in-law's street, even though it's on a higher hill than ours, is thawed out- but we face north and our road gets a dab of sunshine first thing (if there's sun to be had) and then nothing more all day.
The blackbird sits on the wall picking at his breast feathers. He looks particularly sleek today. I trust he and his lady will be nesting in the ivy again this year.
There is snow in the air. A single flake riding the currents. And, look- there's another.
The salt hasn't done its job. I'm going out again- but this time with a spade.
