Family Heirloom [Nov. 19th, 2008|02:09 pm]
Tony Grist
And here's the original photograph of Alfred Lord Tennyson that was handed down in my Grandmother's family.

And here's the inscription on the reverse. A. Colenutt is (I believe) Annie Colenutt, my grandmother's mother.

Do you know the origin of the photograph? How did they get an original?

I've no idea. The picture was being used as a bookmark in the family Tennyson- which was given me by my Uncle Randall Jackson, my granny's rather raffish artist brother.

It looks a lot like a Julia Margaret Cameron photograph.

Sadly it isn't. Nor is it a Lewis Carroll. I looked it up once. It's the work of a lesser-known photographer
