In Note Form

It rained. It rained some more. I watched a video of the Beatles playing "Rain". They were miming of course because once they stopped gigging and went into the studio most of their product was too sophisticated to be reproduced by four guys on a stage. I read a piece about how "Rain" came to be written and recorded. "Rain" is a great song. Then I read a number of other pieces about other Beatles songs because I find them endlessly fascinationg. By the end of their time together they were less like a band and more like a collective- with people coming and going- under the the direction- sometimes fraught, sometimes resented- of Paul McCartney. The sun came out. I went and looked at the sea. It was magnificent, gleaming like metal with big waves rolling and breaking. Then we went to the shops. Ailz is downstairs watching a video about Quakerism. I'm upstairs doing this, hoping it'll rain some more. The media won't come out and say it in so many words but it seems the Queen is dying.
