There Was No Lockdown Party At Number 10 And Besides I Wasn't At It.

Politicians lie.

What makes Prime Minister Johnson stand out from the pack is the gusto with which he does it. There's no finesse about it, no covering of tracks, no shame, no shiftiness even, no attempt at plausibility, no calculation of consequences, just a full on assertion of what is patently not true. He's the kid with crumbs round his mouth and gravy dribbling down his chin who says he didn't even know there was a pie to be stolen. He's transparent- he's a sit-com character, with mannerisms, catchphrases, and a certain look. He's Del Boy, he's Basil Fawlty, he's David Brent...

And like them he enhances the gaiety of the nation (or did- but his ratings are falling)...

Also he contributes more than most (so thank him for this) to the exposure and dissolution of a thoroughly rotten system.
