A Bird In The Hand [Jun. 11th, 2021|09:12 am]
Tony Grist
A nuthatch let itself into the house yesterday. I plucked it off the curtain rail, took it outside, opened my hand and instead of flying away it clung to my thumb with one of its claws and sat there on my palm gawping. I don't think it was physically damaged. Eventually I persuaded it to climb into a tree- and left it there, perched on the stump of a branch, in the hope that it would come to its senses.

We aim to run a bird-friendly establishment.

Good grief, the bold thing! TBH, although I like to see the birds outside, I don't like a bird in the house.

No, I'm not keen on them coming inside either, but we have all the doors open at this time of year and it happens.

before we got the guard on top, we had sparrows sliding down inside our fireplace. My mother was the one who could catch them and escort them outside poor things always looked scared to death and lingered awhile before they flew away.

We keep the doors open in summer. And we have a lot of doors. Inevitably some of the wild life takes that as an invitation.
