Norwich Roof Boss #2 [Sep. 8th, 2019|09:02 am]
Tony Grist
This one's fairly straightforward. It's an Annunciation. Mary sits at her reading desk while the Archangel Gabriel tiptoes up behind. The ill-defined golden thing in the background between them is almost certainly the Holy Ghost.

Gabriel has lost his head and Mary never seems to have been in possession of a right arm.

Great, clear photo. It must have been quite a long way away. Jenny x

How high is the cloister roof- ten feet? fifteen feet? I'm not sure. Last time I tried this was with the old camera and I couldn't get anything in focus.

The suggestion of an arm is there as there is a point of attachment and a sleeve/ arm drapery. And yes, one can see the wings of the dove as well. Sort of.

Thank you for this this. Next time we go to Norwich, I intend to go back to the cloister for a 4th? 5th? time.

Norwich is my favourite cathedral; its interior is a perfect meld of Romanesque and gothic.

I read a book while I was recovering from my knee surgery - The name has flown right out of my head but it was also a favorite of my mother's. The running story line was the building of a church, and every time I see your posts about your visits, I think of that book.

Nope. Saranin? Something like that. I loved it. Obviously not enough to remember the name...
