Christmas Shopping

It was cold in town. Icy. Like knife blades laid flat against the skin. I should have worn my donkey jacket, not my black, leather gestapo coat. My gestapo coat is too roomy, the cold gets under it.

Ailz took the belt off her cardigan and offered it me as a scarf.

We had lunch at the Shalimar; we haven't been there for over a year, but the owner recognised us and that was nice.

We went in a lot of shops. Negotiating small, narrow, crowded, city centre shops makes me nervous. The more I'm carrying the worse it gets.

The late afternoon light was pink and ghostly.
