Pecking Order [Jun. 20th, 2019|07:51 pm]
Tony Grist
I was thinking the magpie would top the pecking order too, but actually, no, the magpie is at the bottom. The squirrel and the rat both took a run at it when it got too close and saw it off.

The squirrel is in the middle.

And the rat is boss. It may be smaller than the others but it's an aggressive beast. Infringe its personal space and it makes like a torpedo. Every time this happened the squirrel gave ground.

I wasn't too far off saying that the rat and squirrel would fight for top dog as it were. I was betting on the rat since they really can be vicious fighters and so territorial. Squirrels are that way with their own but I wasn't sure how they reacted to other species. At least the magpie has the possibility of flying off to safety.

No blood was spilt. So long as boundaries were observed they were all happy to coexist.

Proving what brutes we mammals be.

Most likely the squirrel was thinking too much.

And the bird was a pacifist or above it all.

If I had wings, I might be less involved in local strife.

It would be great to have wings.
