Not Actually Teatime [Jun. 18th, 2019|08:15 am]
Tony Grist
My mother called me at 7.30 this morning. No hardship; I was on the point of getting up anyway.

"Are we skipping tea this afternoon?" she asked in that slightly haughty, passive-aggressive manner she adopts when she wants to dominate.

I explained the situation.

Is tea supposed to be about 2 or 3?

(PS - I reeely do not like passive aggression. My heart goes out to you on that).

At least it was 7.30. It gets light so early now. Max sometimes wakes me at five, wanting breakfast, on my days off.

I feel aggrieved when I haven't had my tea, too.

I reckon I have five cups of tea in the course of the average day. (And one cup of coffee)

I have recently discovered I really like Earl Grey- but I wouldn't want to drink it all the time.

Time has ceased to have meaning for her. I suppose that's as it should be and at least you were awake. But yes, passive-aggressive is not fun.

She has very little idea of time. She came to just now- though she hadn't been asleep- and asked me who won the horse race she'd been watching- which had ended over an hour and a half earlier.
