Going Quietly [Dec. 31st, 2018|09:16 am]
Tony Grist
I thought my cold had gone away when all it had done was vacate one section of the upper respiratory tract in order to annoy another. I had a few bouts of concentrated coughing over night, but slept in between.

Ailz's mother is in hospital following a fall and now seems to be in much the same mental state as my mother- only not cheerful about it. Ailz's brother has been doing the heavy lifting since we moved down here- and the situation has been a steady source of low-level drama. The drama has a long prehistory and I think I know some of the reasons for it but I'm sure I don't know them all. It is now, perhaps, playing out towards an end game. As much as possible, so far as this blog is concerned, I mean to keep it off stage- but circumstances will probably require me to mention it now and then.

"Is it really as long ago as August that John McCain died?" asks Ailz. She's scrolling through a list of "famous" people who died in 2018. I look over her shoulder and mostly see faces I don't recognise. Footballers, comedians, sports commentators....

It looks as though the last day of 2018 is going to be experienced in West Kent as chilly and overcast.

I hope things work out with as small an amount of drama as possible. I sympathize greatly.

There's not a great deal we can do- and we're not going to get too upset about things that are out of our hands.

I'm so sorry about the family issues. They can be awfully taxing especially as we are all of an age ourselves and doing the best we can for the older generation as you are doing. My own drama in that respect happened years ago but I do empathize tremendously.

I hope you feel better soon!

We've been looking after my mother for nearly six years now. I can't say it was something I had on my bucket list- though in many ways it has been a excellent thing.

We had to choose between mothers- and my mother got her bid in first. There's no way we can offer similar attention to both of them.
