Frost [Dec. 14th, 2018|10:29 am]
Tony Grist
Baw and Sit (I've been spelling it Bo but Baw is correct) are up a scaffolding tower fixing tiles to the wall of the house. These are "L" shaped tiles for going round corners. The upper storey of the house is clad in tiles but whoever did the job last time round cut costs by finishing off the corners with wood- which has rotted. We're now doing things properly.

"I wouldn't want to be doing that job in this weather," I say. "That's why we're employing Baw and Sit," says Ailz.

It's very cold. There was a frost overnight. Bird baths and horse water butts are frozen. A fox trotted across the lawn at breakfast time. They don't come right up to the house except when it's cold. Villon noticed the same thing to be true of wolves.

You're lucky to have such good handymen.
And you paint a good picture of rural life with the frost and foxes.

Thanks. You too. I believe your winter is a good deal harsher than ours.

oh, our winter is a good deal harsher than almost any. But you know I grew up here...and we have one perk. When the snow melts, USUALLY your abode is still upright.

I love the idea of a fox. Fox is one of my totems...there were several down at the lake where I walk this summer - seven kits that used to follow me.

We have foxes living nearby. We hear them barking at night. Mostly they don't show themselves by day.

as they got older, during the summer, they came out less and less in the daytime. It was kind of cool to have them following me - I'd turn and they'd sit, like a dog. I've heard vixens. at night and they are rather scary.

Baw and Sit are extremely conscientious
