Fiction And Cricket [Aug. 7th, 2005|10:30 am]
Tony Grist
It's been a year or so since I wrote any fiction. I love my LJ, but there's one thing you don't get to do in this sort of essay/diary writing and that's compose dialogue. And dialogue is such terrific fun.

So I'm taking out one of my old novels and I'm rewriting it. It's my favourite novel but the plot is crap. My plan is to keep a lot of what's already there, but hang it on a different framework.

On a completely different topic:- I know most of you won't know what I'm talking about, but England just beat Australia in the Second Test by three runs! It was the most extraordinary finish to an extraordinary game and it's made me a very happy bunny.

I'm glad to hear about the novel. If that's a direct result of the dream about the dying fish, it sounds like a good outcome.

Yes, it's a direct outcome of that dream.

Last night I dreamed that Orson Welles and I were appearing in an open air play in Cairo and I hadn't bothered to learn my lines.

I wonder what that was telling me?

I'll even let you have some peace - stop teasing you and threatening you with my pain relief pen while your writing or working it out in your head - but any other time you're still fair game okay ;))

I am so pleased to hear about your writing!

And I am, with bewilderment, also pleased about the Second Test.

What Test? Was it sailing? Cricket?

The Ashes series against Australia is played every two years and is the pinnacle of World Cricket (at least as far as we English are concerned.) Australia is the world's best team and England is rated number 2. This year there's a real chance that England (a team that has been improving by leaps and bounds over the past two or three years) could beat Australia and take the number 1 slot. The series, which runs to five matches, is now level, with each team having one once.
