The Butler Did It [Oct. 26th, 2018|09:55 am]
Tony Grist

Not many British businessmen are household names, so when one of them slapped an injunction on the Telegraph to stop it identifying him as a sexist, racist bully we had about five to choose from- and all of them passed under a cloud- which was a little unfair to the innocent four. I didn't see how the dam could hold- not now in the #MeToo era- and it didn't. Philip Green was one of the five- in fact, given his track record, the prime suspect- but I'd discounted him because I didn't think he still had a reputation to lose.

I didn't recognise his name at first, but of course his businesses are well known on the High Street. Guilty or not at this point, I do find it most unfair to pretty much be hanging him up by the privates before he has even been tried, much less found guilty. This rush to judgment on everyone just on the basis of rumours (Kevin Spacey), even before any indictments, arrests, court, is a bit much for my taste.

It's not clear- yet- whether he's done anything that would land him in a court of law. The Telegraph has been investigating him for months and has a dossier it was going to publish- which it had every right to do- until he slapped an injunction on it.
