Chancers [Oct. 1st, 2018|09:12 am]
Tony Grist
We had a letter from a property developer last week. I suspect all the neighbours did too. It was a very tentative approach which said, "we might be interested in building houses on your land and perhaps you'd be interested in talking to us"- or words to that effect. I'm treating it as junk mail. We've had a spin on that merry-go-round and I'm not hankering after another- not yet, anyway.

The plan for a new town development in our village fell through, but once that kind of a question mark has been raised over an area it stays there- hovering, faintly glimmering- and continues to draw the chancers.

We have enough already in the south. Just outside of Teynham there is a new development near Bapchild which will have 900 new homes. There will be no village along that corridor on the A2 if this continues.

The company in question seems to specialise in small- field-sized- developments on the edges of existing conurbations. They've got one under construction just outside Brighton.

Like you I could wish we'd stop developing the South East and start developing some of the areas in the north that could do with an influx of capital and bright young things.

Absolutely, we have become too south-centric and really should be building the infrastructure, housing and all that comes with it up North that need it so badly.

Plenty of land in the north. Plenty of brown field sites too.

And better rail and bus infrastructure too, not an HS2 for god's sake.
