Dixons

Martin McDonagh is London Irish- and must be aware of the BBC's long-running cop show- Dixon of Dock Green (1953-76) even though it was rather before his time. The character George Dixon- played by Jack Warner- is a paragon of a policeman, kindly, paternal, wise and universally respected-  so when McDonagh gave the name Dixon to his small town American cop- who is none of these things- I reckon he was having his little joke.
