Sulking For The Camera [Jul. 8th, 2018|10:42 am]
Tony Grist
There was a man in the good seats at Wimbledon yesterday displaying a hand-written sign which read "I'D RATHER BE WATCHING THE FOOTBALL".

I wondered (a) what was keeping him from living the dream- because all he had to do was slip out of the stadium and switch on his phone.

and (b) who in particular he was trying to impress/ appeal to/ annoy.

Someone who had more power than he did (I don't want to say his wife or partner or significant other, because...well, because) and he felt as though he had to be at Wimbledon. I feel sort of sad, someone who could have used that seat was somewhere else wishing s/he was at Wimbledon.

I love Wimbledon- but I've never actually wanted to buy tickets. I figure I've got a better seat at home- with a choice of courts and lots of different angles, plus I don't have to worry about the vagaries of the weather.

SUCOL has a Law In London program and one year the two profs and their wives who taught the program went to Wimbledon. They would agree with you - too many people, too few seats. But I was always a little envious, just because they went.
