Just Before Seven O'Clock [Jul. 4th, 2018|06:42 pm]

Patch is back in his field- and his owners have strung a cat's cradle of string across what we think was his point of exit. Apparently string deters horses quite as much as barbed wire would. They see the obstacle- and have no idea of its strength.

Cloud has been building up all day. It's just started raining in Wimbledon and I think it may be about to rain here. It would be excellent if it did.

I was watching Wimbledon. I do not like Roger Federer very much but find I have a lot more sympathy and enthusiasm for him - although 39 is not old! And I watched Serena win in straight sets but I wouldn't count on her to win it all this year. She's still a bit out of shape and was winded several times during the match. I saw most of the John Isner match and watched the Canadian (Raonic) win. And Gael Monfils, who I totally love.

I think one of the old guard will win the men's tournament- which means Federer, Nadal or Djokovic- but it would be wonderful if one of the youngsters could break through.

The women's tournament is wide open. I share your doubts about Serena going all the way.

My heart loves Rafa Nadal (actually,
Juan Martín del Potro), I will never be a fan of Djokovic. As long as it isn't that Australian lout with the Greek name...

I watched Nadal's first match- and he was in tremendous form.

There's a young German guy called Zverev who looks like he's going places.
