Bees [Jun. 25th, 2018|08:39 am]
Tony Grist
There are honey bees and there are bumble bees- and that's really all I knew.

But I've been reading up on the subject and now I know a lot more.

For example: there are over 250 types of bee in the UK.

Another thing: Bees are descended from wasps.

And another: Most types of bee are solitary. It's only the honey bee that lives in huge colonies.

And another: All bees are pollinators but only the honey bee and a few types of bumble bee make honey.

And yet another: Some bees are "cuckoos" laying their eggs in the nests of other bees just as the cuckoo does.

Then there is the Shakespear type-
"To bee or not to bee ..."

Bees fascinate me but I keep a respectful distance. They aren't usually as aggressive as wasps but even so they do like to work without interference.

They don't bother me. I reckon they're pretty focused on what they're doing- and so long as I don't get in the way they'll ignore me.
