Snowflakes [May. 18th, 2018|10:53 am]
Tony Grist
When the old start calling the young names it's usually because the young are doing something right.

And by "something right" I mean something the old either never thought of doing or something they should have done but never got around to because it was too demanding.

What the old are really saying when they criticise the young is "If being jerks was good enough for us why isn't it good enough for you?"

There will be exceptions. Aren't there always?

Former self started calling youngsters names when it wasn't even 18. That also included those ones at the same age like it.
How does that fit the concept?

That's just misanthropy.

Hm... In that point you're probably right...
Although I must say, as the reigning self today, I don't do such stuff anymore.
However, I think that's more due to the "loud&proud"-phase of youth being "over". Less that I think many things of that were factually wrong.
Well, and that although I'm that trained in psychology to know "before accusing others, always look at yourself first!". Still I don't see the incorrectness of that, in that aspects which my brain focused on then.

Alternatively, the old may be seeing the young committing the same boneheaded mistakes they did at a similar age.

In that case wouldn't they offer them sage advice rather than call them names?

Depends on what the kids are saying. Snark has a distressing tendency to beget more snark.
