Generational Conflict. [Apr. 6th, 2018|04:03 pm]
Tony Grist
I put my mother's lunch in front of her (Sausages!) and she immediately starts to get to her feet.

"Where are you going?"

"To spend a penny"

"Don't do that. Your meal will get cold".

"No it won't and I'll enjoy it all the more for being comfortable."

And off she stumps. "Don't wait your lunch for me," she says- graciously.

"I have no intention to" I say severely.

Sometimes she wins these little tussles and sometimes I do. I like to think I win the important ones.

At her age, having her win that particular tussle is probably better for both of you.

And, anyway, she was determined. There was no way she wasn't going to win.

No doubt. God help the person that stands between me and the call of nature these days, and that just gets stronger/worse the older I get.

She's not particularly difficult. Now and then she digs her heels in- but it's not a regular occurrence.

I'm lucky if dad eats one meal a day
its odd seeing chocolate milk in the fridge
they'd refuse to give it to us as kids

i don't like it's skim with extra sugar
and he needs the fat.
but I'm not going to say anything to him
ain't worth the bother.

My mother likes her food- though she eats less than she used to.

Chocolate milk is nasty stuff. I remember being given some when I was a little kid- and
immediately throwing up.
