You've Got To Wonder [Mar. 26th, 2018|01:02 pm]
Tony Grist
So who has benefited most from the Skripal affair?

1. May and Johnson because it has allowed them to play at being Winston Churchill.

2. The rulers of the EU because it has created an opportunity for them to gather Britain tenderly to their bosoms and go, "There, there, you see you need us really."

3. NATO- and the arms manufacturers who back it- because it gives them a reason to talk up the Russian threat and beef up our so-called defences.

And who has come off worst?

1, 2 and 3. Putin because it has united the West against him and loused up his plans for the World Cup.

So if Putin was responsible it was an extraordinarily stupid thing for him to do.

...And which is why the property is pretty low that there was a direct order from himself. Only disadvantages and losses... Who could want if he thinks at least a little bit strategically?

Those idiots throwing around with accusations now should be shamed of themselves because they do something that the so-called "open society" of the West continuously preaches all day and night, including themselves: Don't prejudge people because of their skin color, sexuality or national origin.
An original Russian citizen and his daugter get poisoned - why does that have to be a Russian who must have killed them? And, above all, why must he have acted, under all circumstances, by the order of the Russian preseident?
Let that happen to an American, where are the same screamers to claim "Trump is to blame!"? Or to blame it on Obama, Hillary, Bush or whoever the fuck is just popular in American politics? Where are the ones to accuse these of murdering one of their own citizens for non-noble motives?
This whole crap is ridiculous. Not even to speak of: Morally highly questionable. Even by self-propagated rules and standards.
They should all crawl into a dark corner where nobody sees them and be ashamed of themselves.

One thing that bothers me considerably is the willingness of the British media to swallow the government line. We're told we have a free press- but it hardly seems like it when every outlet is singing along to the same tune and those who ask questions are mocked and shouted at.

Well, free press also only exists for as long as those who are willing to play imperialism want it.
If it doesn't suit their goals, they quickly throw it overboard...

I'm perfectly happy to believe that a Russian or Russians did it because Skripal must have seriously pissed off a few people when it was revealed he had been spying for the UK. Personal revenge could be a motive as there may be people with grudges. It may even have been a Russian agency of some kind, but I don't believe that Putin directly ordered the attack, simply on the grounds that it's way beneath his pay grade.

Also, if Putin did do it, in addition to the things that Tony has mentioned, it was very stupid to poison people within a few miles of the one place in the UK which would have antidotes and be really on top of how to deal with nerve agents.

I don't believe it one bit anymore, it sounds like a version for children to me. He was in a Russian prison (and got a pretty mild sentence), Putin and the Russians need what happened least of all. Who do you mean by "people he must have pissed off by spying for the UK" except Putin and KGB? It is not like it is personal for anyone. He is Russian, he spied for the UK, who knows what he was up to or what he could start revealing, UK intelligence could easily be behind it too. We saw people "killing themselves" and zipping themselves up into bags in bathtubs. All intelligence agencies do it. Putin is not an idiot, Russians are not idiots, but our politicians think that we are and that they can now just scream "Russians" at the right time and get away with anything. We saw no evidence of "the Russians" but I see how much we want it to be them and how much we encourage action before the investigation is over. They have to work way bloody harder than just scream "Putin", it is getting old and we are not all idiots. Putin is a despicable tyrant but I am no longer buying this crap.
