So why do men wear suits?|
Rose McGowan confronted Steve Colbert with his suit-wearing during her free-wheeling, rather wonderful sojourn on his couch and he deflected the question with an off the cuff rejoinder about Pete Townsend telling him to- but she definitely had him on the back foot.
As McGowan said, suits give men stiff little tyrannosaur arms. They're constricting. They suppress individuality. And mostly they come in such dull colours. .
The business suit must be the dreariest costume mankind has ever inflicted upon itself. It's horrible. It needs to go.
Business suits let every 20-year-old look like an old man.
Actually quite a farce to look at when you know the pal in the suit - and if you know how immature he personally is.
(Kids trying to look mature... And the worst part is they even get taken serious! Unlike when 13-year-olds want to touch booze to prove they're adult and the adult world smiles down upon them over their naivety and puts them in their respective place.)
I've never liked suits. And I have never worn one if I could possibly help it.
Can't get those youngsters which can't wait to jump into one!
I don't know. I wouldn't want to have to wear one every single day and you are right about the drab colour choices, but my gods, sometimes my little heart has gone pitty pat a little harder at the sight of a well dressed man. The tailoring does have to be perfect, however. None of this Burtons off the rack polyester crap.
I can honestly say I've never gone pitty pat at a suit.
No, really, I hate the things.
If you pick your clothing for the occasion, you may sometimes misread the event and underdress or overdress, or use colours that are too bright or too dull, or expose too much or too little skin. Like a uniform, a suit may not be ideal for the situation, but it is never completely wrong. To quote from Lois McMaster Bujold's "Cetaganda":
"Uniforms are always correct, or, if not exactly correct, clearly not the wearer's fault, since he has no choice."
I haven't worn a suit- except to weddings and funerals- for forty years. I get by.
the last 2 days I saw a beautifully colored pink plaid suit,
not too tight or pinched,
it looked like it fit well so it probably when i looked
at a fashion site
this one resembles it -the tie was even lovely.
but I understand not wearing a suit, think you're view matches my view on bras- there's not one serious reason to wear one of those contraptions. nope not one.
