In Her Dreams [Jan. 29th, 2018|09:47 am]
Tony Grist
My mother has been forgetting things for ages but it's new that she should be remembering things that are not case. There were three incidents yesterday. First thing in the morning she remembered the carers turning up and her sending them away, in the early afternoon she was asking about the people who were coming to lunch and in the evening she was surprised to see Ailz because she thought she'd gone to a dance....

When the mind cannot recall facts/actual happenings it compensates by inventing its own reality. I'm convinced of that as I've seen it in several of my family members.

There may be an element of wish-fulfilment in her "memory" of sending the carers packing. I'm sure that's something she'd love to do.

Otherwise I'm struck by how mundane these imaginings are.

Oh dear, but at least you don't have the horror false memories. My MIL went through a period where she was SO scared of everything, it was heartbreaking.

That sounds awful.

My mother's "rememberings" are oddly mundane and unexciting.
