A Late Breakfast [Jan. 5th, 2018|10:21 am]
Tony Grist
I tell my mother it would make me happy if she ate some cereal. "Got to keep your strength up" I say cheerily. And she concedes.

So I stand by the bed with a bowl of cereal in my hand,  spoon feeding her and watching the water drip from the eaves. The media folk have got hold of the phrase "weather-bomb" and are using it on every possible occasion and this is something  I deplore because a weather front is not at all like a bomb- a bomb is instantaneous and spreads destruction from its centre whereas weather advances and persists- and I hate anything that degrades and cheapens language. Pure sensationalism; that's what it is....

The cat jumps up onto the bed and sits on my mother's chest.

I'm glad your mother obliges you.

Weather these days has become a kind of reality show. I shuddered when I heard the "bomb" phrases they're inventing. It is so ridiculous.

As if weather were a kind of warfare being waged against us by Nature.

When such physical state starts to kick in, it might be it won't be long anymore until the inevitable...
...Always take care if animals start to become comforting. You know, they might smell something that humans don't smell. I think, dogs and cats alike...

I thought she was dying a week ago, but since then she's staged a bit of a recovery.

This can also be a part of the process, as far as I know it from hearing other people talking about such things.
One last summoning before the big boom...
Doesn't have to be this, but it seems to happen quite often.
How long it lasts may be very different from person to person.
