Ratting

The cat sat on the garden bench watching the rats and I stood to the side and watched the rats and the cat watching the rats. We both kept very still. I enjoyed watching the rats; they were young rats and they were climbing things and hopping about in the long grass round the bird feeder and venturing out onto the path within pouncing distance of the cat. I kept waiting for him to make his move- and eventually he did- but only after the rats had moved off somewhere else. What he did was descend from his perch in a leisurely fashion, stroll to where the rats had been and then make a couple of pounces in the direction of something I'm pretty certain wasn't there.
