Seems like I keep doing this- turning to U-Tube to play clips of some musician or actor of my youth who has just died....

By the Time I Get to Phoenix, Galveston, Wichita Linesman- three great songs, transcending genre (are they pop or country or folk? Who cares!)

And timeless. The human condition summed up in three minutes of wistfulness. To do it once is amazing, to do it three times....

Agreed. A remarkable legacy!

I mention this only because I've had to correct myself more than once today - it's "lineman", not "linesman". That's the B-side:

The Wichita linesman
Has called you offside.

Thanks. :)

Do we even have linemen in Britain? Or do we call them something else?

I think these days they all work for Openreach, a name that has its own overtones of unsatisfied longing.

He was also an amazing musician. He got his start as a session man, and he was a participating member of the Beach Boys for awhile. I know a little bit more about him than your average boomer because I was a BIG fan for awhile. He recorded an album with Bobby Gentry and one with Anne Murray. He has finally gone to his peace, whatever or wherever that is.

It was an incredible career. He wasn't ever the finished article as an actor but his turn in True Grit is memorable.
