The difference between Trump and most other heads of state is that they hide their uncouthness, incompetence and venality behind a curtain- and he doesn't. He's the first uncensored, unfiltered president of the modern age. There's no Vaseline on the lens. In place of the managed image, the crafted statements there's an orange man with silly hair who twitters...|
He's embarrassing but he hasn't started a war yet. Now which, I wonder, is the greater crime...

He is not the first. Berlusconi is exactly the same, only he didn't have Twitter but he had his own TV network and produced "esternazioni" - externations several times a day in a completely unfiltered and unrestrained way. It was all in Italian, so the greater world got to know about it only if he exceeded every decency, like when he called Merkel an unf***able arse and somebody actually bothered to translate what he had said. He didn't cause a war but rode his country into total moral and financial meltdown...
Yep, thinking of the whole circumstances, Trump isn't the first in this department.
Berlusconi was a media mogul in his country too, while being the president at the same time and he also afforded himself a lot of decadent shit, without ever really getting kicked in the arse for it.
But on the other hand, such fast livers who show it openly, sure they're only like the peak of the iceberg. There are many more, but no media outlet ever sees or hears it or displays it because they gonna be sued 'til the last penny over it.
Just on its own, I always wonder how many pedophiles sit in politics and high positions, as this kind of humans exists in all kinds of jobs, in all classes of society; usually jobs with a high function for the reigning system even increases the probability to meet real creeps as ultimate power tends to form the really bad pigs in life.
As there's never been a really big scandal about this in such circles, one can guess how much dirt possibly lies in there... 'Cause, if you ever happen to meet or hear someone talking about such shit if he/she experienced it him/herself, they all say "all kinds of people do this", there's no exception of social group.
But for people in meaningful positions, the state within and their own circles tend to hide it as the well-being of the system everyone lives in carries higher priority than a few destroyed kids lives.
I should perhaps have said, "The first US president".
You and I have spoken about the similarities between the two and Berlusconi immediately came to mind as I read this post. I still feel nauseated by the whole nasty situation.
This is like what pretty much vanishes in all this mess of accusations what he and his family has supposedly agreed on with the Russians or not.
No other president is and was very much different, in terms of being unsuitable for the job and having no idea about how the world functions like, it's all only hidden behind a neat curtain which only very few people have access to. Does that sugary coating make it better? Don't think so.
But for him, at least in the details, it rather looks like he's going for a war with his own state within than with the rest of the world (except the old apple of discord named "North Korea"). An Obama signed all the secret training programs for Syrian rebels, didn't move towards peace in the area, a Hillary Clinton would have done that too, none the better in tradition than a George W. Bush with Iraq, but it's the stupid sexist and narcissist with an orange face and silly hair who wanted to ban Muslims from his country and build a wall at the state border to Mexico who's endlessly bound to his Twitter account that managed to give a presidential order from one to the other day to cut the crap and stop wasting tax payer money. Just like a blow of the wind. No warning, no comment, no anything.
And there the roles of good and evil shall be reserved in that game so very early and fiercely? C'mon, people. Stop losing it over some emotional shit, just look at it the rational way. If you just keep protesting on the streets only for this emotional crap, you're being used and you know that.
The world of politics is much bigger than that which minority group I annoy today.
Yes, I agree.
I always thought that Trump represented less of a threat to world peace than Clinton did. She'd have delivered more of the same, whereas he- well, he's a wild card; who knows what his legacy will be?
World peace is a threat to itself; the key is whether you have somebody who will make the situation better or worse... Mistakes made in the name of diplomacy are far less egregious than those made on a whim.
That would be interesting question.
Although I hold the opinion - once in a while, somebody also can leave no legacy. Meaning, he doesn't need to. Not all people need to leave on.
Void also got its very own special advantages.
I doubt that the Presidency will ever be quite the same again.
Might be. As it's always hard to be the first, the 2nd of the same kind always has a much easier struggle to do...
The key word is "yet"... All the signs are that he will eventually do both, which will be far worse.
Yep. I am expecting him to nuke North Korea almost any day.
He hasn't started a war against another nation, no. But he has started several wars against the weak and defenseless in this country -- and, at least in the case of undocumented aliens, is framing the arrest and deportation of young people brought here as children as ridding the country of some eeeevil brown people who are planning to kidnap and torture the flower of virgin white womanhood. Yesterday he launched a multi-pronged attack against the LGBTQ community.
EDITED TO ADD: And in past few days he has demonstrated a shocking relish for brutal acts of vindictiveness.
