If you are a paid user the agreements mean nothing and there really isn't anything that new in them. That they did it without announcing it is another matter but I am staying here even though I've backed up at DW for years. I don't care for that site at all. I don't know if you've seen the following:http://news.livejournal.com/151767.html
Anyway, I am very glad you will be cross-posting as mostly, I only visit DW to back up once a week and I do love seeing people here. It's been my community of 13 and a half years and I hate to see people leaving.
And truly? Every single site on the web that provides services of any sort requires one to agree to whatever terms they impose. You can't even buy an airplane ticket without agreeing to the terms.
PS I have subscribed to your DW and have granted you access to mine there should you care to do the same. I don't generally use open access and prefer to sign in to each site.Edited at 2017-04-04 02:25 pm (UTC)
I hadn't seen that news item. It explains the new contract.
Thanks for pointing at this post. Sure nobody's seen it 'til now.
You're welcome! They posted it last night right when the changes were made. I am subscribed to the news posts so saw it immediately.
Seen the date on it - and well...
I don't know what to think of it. Only received the popup during the night when the maintenance note disappeared - really want through the new terms to see what might be new. Think, there's barely been a change in user agreement or terms & conditions over the years.
Don't know what to make of it, as Russian laws on what they find illegal and what of all things is 18+ content are totally unknown except for those ones who always caused controversy over the years.
Personally, I don't think anything has changed at all.
Well, I've had no problems previously, but often enough my issues also depend on the nobody feels disturbed by it. With talking about violence or speaking out cold hard truth in an uncompromising way, people more often have their problems and "security concerns", so I'm always on the side of the careful and just try to assume the best to come ( = nobody ever bothering negatively about me).
A wise way to act sometimes.
Well, it's just assuming. Knowing to be safe is different!
"The Administration may send to User information related to the Service as well as third-party advertising using the email address provided by User."
Same as Facebook et al. This refers to non-paid accounts. I am permanent her and have never had any issues.
I, too, dislike Dreamwidth, but that's because I've had bad experiences with people there. I don't gel with the mindset at all.
My problem is exactly the same as yours, then. I've had some really bad times with a couple of people there. Also, the mindset is just....no.
Thank you for expressing what I feel.
It's so nice to find others that can't get on with Dreamwidth! I know that a lot of my LJ friends love it, but I have a variety of issues with it, dating back to the first mass exodus of fanfic writers over LJ's clamp down on child pornography. There's just something about the whole ethos and atmosphere at Dreamwidth that I don't like. If LJ folds or all the people I want to read leave, I'll go to Tumblr or Blogger and G+, never Dreamwidth.
I would go to DW because as a platform it is what most mimics LJ even though it has a lot of irritating features...BUT...not until they lock the door here permanently and kick me out. I would not be happy about it though. But it is so true that the ethos and atmosphere there really put me off.
I have added you at Dreamwidth. Cross-posting is good if you're not ready to leave. I was mourning the loss of access to your journal until I saw this today. I'm going to delete my LJ account very soon.
I'll add you at DW. Cross-posting is no great hardship- and I imagine I'll do it for a while. We'll see.
That makes me really sad, Lucy. I know everybody should do as the feel right, though.
I don't think much here has changed at all...there are terms of service everywhere you go on the web if you want to use said services and after reading the thing here last night, I laughed at the bad English which my translator's brain cringed at, thought "meh", clicked and have proceeded to carry on.
***Will the new contracts be used to censor sites that the government of the Russian Federation dislikes?***
No, they won't. Our goverment don't care about you, they do care about us
Anyway they can't do anything to residents of the USA or Canada.

Re: Exuse me for breaking into
I recognise that I'm beyond their reach (I'm English as it happens) but...
I don't like it that they're censoring anyone.
And are you sure they won't shut down foreign blogs that deal with LGBT issues?
All this "Putin drama" and freaking out every time LJ updates anything is something I completely do not get. I have never seen much consultation when FB or Twitter update their TOS (also, I know that you English speakers are not accustomed for TOS to be in foreign language but we deal with it all the time on your sites). Also, there is more censorship there than there is here. And from our stay in Moldova we know that they do not take even the most critical posts about Putin off LJ or even take them out of the top. Oppression there evolved and is way more complex than this these days. All this "running away from Putin who is after us with all our 14 readers" and "we are moving away to protest Putin and punish him" is so hard to understand for me. Good luck on DW. I tried to move there but I think it sucks especially for someone as picture heavy as I am os had to come back here and am staying put.
I'm moving out of solidarity with LGBT friends who are afraid of falling foul of the Russian Federation's rules about "promoting" homosexuality. Apart from that I don't really have a beef with Putin. I think the hysteria in the Western media has been hugely overdone.
I say "I'm moving" but for the foreseeable future I'll be maintaining two homes. As long as I have friends on LJ I'll be posting and reading here. It makes sense, I think, to have my archive backed up.
You have a point about photographs. DW doesn't seem to have a picture hosting service.
Oh, I have been reading you for a while and would have never thought that you were the "solidarity" guy. Because for me personally, even two minutes of thinking about it makes it clear that there is neither solidarity nor meaning in such things and often they even achieve the opposite but I think we are so trained for virtue signalling (and it feels good) that it often becomes our first reflex. But those are just my five cents, I might not be getting it obviously (I don't get many things). At least I hope I can get one thing right about you based on all the time I have been reading you, please tell me you didn't tweet #prayforlondon
I've never tweeted anything. I'm not on Twitter (or FB for that matter). :)
Thanks :). Neither am I btw. My niece opened an Instagram account for me a while ago and I think she uploaded some of my photos from LJ there but I do not check it and am not sure if she still updates it or not. I hope she is not going #prayfor
[victim] there on my behalf or "stop the bad stuff, start the good stuff" but I can't be certain.
Ailz created an FB for me- but I never did anything with it. I've no idea whether it still exists.
I was told that the usual cycle on FB is that every week there is a new undeniably good cause there to show "outrage" or "solidarity" with and unfriend everyone whose level of enthusiasm does not match yours and if you don't unfriend your grandma who has different views than you pretty much are a baby killer (there is always a short logical path to dying babies for most causes). And this "fighting the evil" and "showing solidarity" and making the world a better place at a push of that unfriend button goes on and on there. I suspect that this is a grotesquely exaggerated summary of what is going there but I still think that I am unlikely to be interested in that place at the moment.
I can well believe it.
Ailz has a FB account. She lets me know when there are cute pictures of the grandkids to be looked at. Otherwise I have zero interest.
