Wig [Dec. 16th, 2016|10:42 am]
Tony Grist

This is the poet and playwright William Congreve, painted by Godfrey Kneller in 1709. Just look at that thing he's got on his head. I mean, really...

Kneller ran a portrait factory. He painted the faces and his assistants filled in everything else.

"So what do you do for a living, son."

"I work for Mr Kneller, the portrait painter."

"That must be interesting."

"It is. I've got the best job in the studio: I paint wigs."

Some of those must have been headache-inducing.

The wig is marvellously painted, though!

I quite like Kneller's work. He wasn't a great painter but he had his points.

That's certainly a beaut, wig-wise.

I chose a well-known figure. If I'd gone for a forgotten aristocrat I could have given you something even more overwhelming.

This may be really mean and very distant in the topic... but, what was that about "hair metal"?

Big hair is a little silly no matter what era it appears in.
