An Accidental Bonfire

I was burning some cardboard boxes yesterday afternoon and unintentionally set fire to the simply enormous pile of leaves the gardeners had left on the bonfire site. All right, I took a risk by dumping the boxes next to the pile but I thought it was damp and wouldn't catch and I was wrong. Once started a fire of leaves is almost impossible to put out (I suppose I might have managed with a hose) and this one smouldered all through the night and all through today and will probably still have some life left in it tomorrow morning. It has had its uses. We've been moving furniture and throwing out rubbish and it's been good to have a fire on the go to put things on.
