Mind Games

I've been reading a whole lot about alterered states of consciousness and I was thinking "I'll have some of that" so I went to bed and lay on my back with my eyes shut and peered into the darkness and thought, "Bring it on."

Occasionally there were little lights, and patches of glowing colour- and inchoate shapes moving around- like elements in a cubist painting that had been animated- "with a movement of darkness on darkness." Waves of energy passed through my body- as if something were about to happen- only it never quite did.

After a while I reckoned I needed to get some sleep- so I turned over on my side. After a while I saw something like a window to the left of me- with four panes in it- all dark. Then one of the panes lit up and, went dark again- then another did the same. And the light while it lasted was exceedingly bright- as in a lucid dream-  and what I saw through the panes were images of a garden. Once the light show ended my memory of exactly what I'd seen faded and wouldn't come back- but I particularly remember a beech tree hedge- and I think there may have been people on a lawn or patio.

Later- when I was properly asleep- I dreamed my grandfather- who was  a wealthy man (by my standards)- had left us his London flat in his will. It was dark and rambling and full of antiques- with lots of cupboards and drawers to rummage through...
