Literary Reputations [Dec. 27th, 2015|10:44 am]
Tony Grist
This morning's Guardian carries an almost entirely laudatory article about Kipling- and the comments on it are almost entirely laudatory too- so perhaps the tide has turned. I notice that several of the admiring comments come from India and Pakistan- which does my heart good...

Channel 4 did a run down of the nation's 50 favourite children's books last night (but who gets to vote? no-one approached me) and it was cheering for a fogey like me to see the long-established classics holding their places; Ruddy was in there with The Just So Stories, Kenneth Grahame and E Nesbit came near the top- and Rowling and Dahl were beaten to first place by A A Milne.

I was glad to see Peter Bellamy get a shout-out for his settings.

Yes.

I saw Bellamy do his Kipling show back in the 80s. One of the highlights of my life

Have just watched the latter on catchup with my mum. Lucky, lucky David Walliams to talk to all those people, and get an original drawing from Judith Kerr!

Nice to be reminded of all those books- and have extracts read by Julie Waters and Martin Freeman.
