Epitaph On A Young Unmarried Woman (1683) St Peter and St Paul, Edenbridge [Nov. 5th, 2015|04:52 pm]
Tony Grist

This fair young maiden for a nuptial bed
More fit, is lodged (sad fate) among the dead.
Stormed by rough winds so falls in all her pride
The full blown rose, designed to adorn a bride.
The blasted rose its beauty shan't regain
And shall neglected by the bride remain.
This virgin in immortal beauty dressed
Shall meet her bridegroom as a welcome guest.

One of the best (by which I mean most poetical) verse epitaphs I've ever come across.

Someone had a poet in the family or close circle of friends. Gosh, that's really something.
