Nature Notes [Jun. 7th, 2015|09:53 am]

Lots of fluffy little baby birds are turning up at the feeders with their proud, solicitous parents. The starlings come in flocks of adults and juveniles- all squwaking and squabbling and jockeying for position. The baby robin doesn't have a red breast yet but you can tell its species from its attitude.

We're having gorgeous weather. I keep expecting a storm and it keeps not turning up. Maidstone got really clobbered a couple of nights back- hailstones included- but all we had was a little gentle rain and a rumble of distant thunder.

We got the hail in Medway on Friday morning- huge stones!

It's been bright and breezy since then!

The house martins are a delight here, carving those acrobatic arcs, barely ever resting. Of course, for me, the highlight is seeing the young rabbits out and about - usually as extremely cautious as you'd expect, but occasionally, inquisitive.

Beautiful weather today - following some rabbiteering, I'm at a favorite pub, enjoying a delicious Milk stout in their beer garden. Looks like the weather here may be very wet on the morrow, but I'll be headed up to Oxford to meet up with jayblanc, which may miss most of that. ^_^ (Probably not a bad idea to stash the coat in the bag anyway, given how capricious British weather is)

We have a lot of rabbits. They come out in the evening- but not only then- to browse the lawn. Also squirrels. The cat chased a young one into the kitchen earlier today.
