A Brush With The Law

We went to see our solicitor yesterday. We'd not met before. He's tubby and bald with a lot of curly grey hair around the ears and collar. The moment I saw him I thought, "Mr Pickwick!"

We went to see him to advance the sale of the house in Oldham. (Yes, that's still going on) We filled in some papers and he put them in the post. We agreed that it would be awfully nice if we could achieve completion by the end of the month- when the house insurance is up for renewal and he seemed to think that would be possible.

Our solicitor has framed cartoons on his stairwell- all with a legal theme, of course.  In one of them an irascible old Edwardian gent is standing trial for assaulting an enemy with a wine bottle- and his lawyer is saying, "But it was a very light wine, M'Lud..."
