Ailz tells me my morning glass of pure orange juice contains 11 spoonfuls of sugar.

Oh...

Bother....

And I thought I'd made the sensible choice.

I might as well be eating coco pops.

Fruit juice is pretty much the same as soda, nutritionally. Which means that it's perfectly reasonable to have in moderation, but is a problem if you're using it as your primary source of fluids.

One of my friends is a pediatrician, and her children drink a glass of juice a day, as a treat. She dilutes it half-and-half with water, first.

If you enjoy drinking juice, there's no reason to give it up; just be aware what it is that you're drinking.

Ironically, fructose is the second-simplest sugar, after glucose, which means that it actually hits your system even HARDER than refined sugar, which is sucrose. However, there is a lot of other stuff in juice, including, if you have orange juice with pulp, fiber, which spreads out its impact and makes it hit your system less hard.

I only drink juice first thing in the morning. It helps me wake up. The brand I buy has "bits" in it.
