The Last 24 Hours

We were on the road for most of yesterday, stopping at Bicester for lunch in a Little Chef. It's nice to be home. Our house is colder and has brighter lights and steeper stairs than my mother's. I went to bed last night at 8.30 because I hadn't noticed the clocks were still running to British Summer Time and thought it was an hour later. This morning- because of the chill- I selected a pair of extra woolly socks from the drawer and found a dried-up, scrunched-up mouse in one of the toes. (This will explain why, earlier this year, a bunch of clothes came out of the washer smelling of death). Carl had warned us there was a problem with the boiler but I've looked at it and I don't think there's anything terribly wrong; the drip might just be condensation. I climbed on the counter to run more water into it this morning and nudged a glass vase off its shelf. Ailz had an appointment this morning with our doctor to talk about her reassessment by Atos and get her flu jab.. Now she's at her mother's.
