The Two Doctors

Colin Baker reminds me of a bully I once knew. Not his fault, but there it is. The arrogance and vanity would be amusing traits if only they were seasoned with charm.

God knows why they saddled Nicola Bryant with an American accent. God knows why they made her character so whiny. She and the Doctor just bicker, bicker, bicker all the time. It's a terrible bore. And, yes, I did notice the cleavage. How could I not?

So much for the negatives. But this episode also has Patrick Troughton- my all-time favourite Doctor and Jacqueline Pearce- my all-time favourite Hammer villainess- plus Androgums and Sontarans. To top it all we're on location in Seville. Why the hell? Why the hell not?  Eviva Espana! The bit where Troughton becomes an Androgum and he and John Stratton put on top hats and eat themselves silly is a delight- and I love the way the mirth is suddenly soured by the totally unanticipated murder of a harmless comic character.
