Romanesque Tympanum- Stoney Stanton, Leicestershire

tympanum, stoney stanton

St Michael's,Stoney Stanton has been rebuilt and restored, but this Romanesque tympanum was retained and placed above what I take to be a vestry door. One source identifies the subject as St Wilfred, accompanied by the lion of the gospel, subduing the wild beasts of paganism.
