 Maybe it's because I was born in the '50s when we still had an empire (just about) and everything was made of boiler plate but it disappoints me when recently purchased electrical goods- sets of headphones for instance- stop working after a few weeks use....

No, it's not you.
It's also if you don't regard money only as a "means of traffic", which you'll still receive tons of in your life and therefore carries no real value, and if you don't habor the enthusiasm to go shopping all the freaking time.

Shopping's an annoyance - when it comes to feeding oneself and buying necessary stuff, then it's an evil one has to live with.
But other than that... What do I want with a dozen of islands?
What's a closet useful for that I have to empty out in order to be able to put somethin in again? It's pure stress. Stress of the uncomfortable kind.

Yes. I think all of us 50's people have the same thoughts. They don't build 'em / make 'em like they used to.
