St Francis [Jun. 19th, 2017|12:59 pm]
Tony Grist

This full-sized papier mache model of St Francis was created by Stan Andrews in the 1990s as the centrepiece of a Sunday School stall at the Minster-in-Sheppey Flower Festival. After moving around a bit- and spending time in a garage- he acquired a permanent home at Holy Trinity Church, Queenborough- where he occupies his own reserved pew.

St. Francis is very special to me despite the fact that I am mixed up spiritually. The last place my mother went was Francis House, operated by the Franciscans here in the area. They were wonderful to her and I've always been grateful. Thanks for posting this.

Most medieval saints are of little interest to non-Catholics, but Francis belongs to the world.

That's a pretty good papier mache Francis. I am another Francis lover...well, he is the patron of animals and his whole philosophy of living poorly among the poor, suffering and needy and caring for them has always made him a wonderful person in my book. Anthony of Padua is another one.
